I grew up in a Teamster family on one side and Pipefitter’s union on the other.

Growing up just east of Muskegon in Sparta, most of my younger days were spent in Muskegon. Grand Rapids had yet to develop into the city it has become today and most of our recreational opportunities focused on Muskegon. In 1999 my career path led me here to be on the radio at about the same time the Muskegon Mall was coming down. I was coming to town, just as some saw us hitting rock bottom. Since that time, I left the radio business and formed my own media outlets focusing on what’s good in Muskegon and who the people are that are making the good things happen. The development of the Positively Muskegon Blog and now The Muskegon Channel website have given me a very unique perspective into the people of the area as well as giving the community a place to see that remarkable things are happening and the attitude of getting the job done has gone nowhere in Muskegon. We’re a town of hard working people whose sense of pride has sustained us through the tough times and as we’re making the turn to better days, I see a chance to continue to have a role as a State Representative.

The journey to Lansing is a long one. I am an “outsider" by most accounts. I grew up in a Teamster family on one side and Pipefitter’s union on the other. Today I am married to Cindy Briggs who is a teacher at Fruitport and we share 6 beautiful grandchildren. I was given many opportunities not afforded to others thanks to the career paths in my family, I hope that my time as your representative, if elected, will help bring some of those to Muskegon too.
